When we got together for the very first time it felt like being thrown into an arena - says Trillian when being asked about the relationship of the members of Das Kombinat. There
were those two strong egos of Sil and Dala knowing exactly what they wanted and us, Tasha and me, on the other side trying to calm down the waves of passion.“
This turned out to be a very creative combination seldom to be found when it comes to electronic music.
Dala and Trillian both living in Augsburg, West-Germany, and Sil and Tasha both born and raised in Dresden, East-Germany, met each other during a pop concert in Munich in 1996 being
introduced by a mutual friend. They soon discovered that they share the same musical interests.
Some weeks later, while being invited to a party of that same friend, they decided to form a band. (The party didn´t seem to be that exciting.) „It was kind of funny“ Tasha admits,
„because we all wanted to do this for quite a long time but neither of us dared to do it“. So the four started to record some demo songs influenced by both the 80’s electronic heroes like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and
New Order and the 90’s generation of electro dance like Chemical Brothers or The Prodigy. Because of the East German background of Tasha and Sil and the special combination when working together as a team they named
themselves „Das Kombinat“.
„Das Kombinat seemed to be the perfect expression of what is going on inside the band.“ Sil explains. „We don’t want to transmit stupid messages like ‘Girl Power’ or whatever, we’re
more interested in writing songs that touch the listener.“
Their first Demo DAT „Mein“ has been sent to several record companies; !ntelligent Communications were the first to respond. „We were a bit surprised“ Dala says, „because we
didn’t send it to them. Sure, we knew them but I don’t have a clue how the DAT got there!“
The collaboration between „Das Kombinat“ and their producers „Techno Twins“ really went well, so it is no surprise that „Lomographic“ has become a strong and powerful, while still
melodic debut album. We have never heard of a four piece girl band who sounds like this.
The story continues
Some time later the formation has changed and Sil (remaining member from the former Das Kombinat) renamed the project to “NEUES KOMBINAT”married the producer and took some time to
work on two particular projects: family (Nina and Colin)and Neues Kombinat.
So it´s obvious that the additional members to the new project are Nina, Colin and Harry and together with Sabine (Sil`s real name)do form a quite unique formation of two generations
in one project. While Nina
and Colin are pretty new to the electronic music side Sabine and Harry have had some quite intense background in this domain already. A perfect match to hand over a music style to a new generation? In fact a song on Neues Kombinat A.I. - artificial innocence deals exactly with this subject, the song: New Generation (I come - you go....). On A.I.-artificial innocence - their debut in this constellation - two things stand out high above everything else: It`s a family doing electronic music and it`s real electronic sound they do as a family. Do you think that`s unique? You bet!
